Concert Thursdays...
Starting
June 11

Wixom
Farmers Market
Thursdays
You
wil find a variety of annuals and perennials, hanging baskets, container gardens, flats of
flowers, and more! Also a large variety of herb and tomato plants. While
shopping for flowers and vegetables, check out the meat selection: chicken, beef,
poultry and bison! Location: Pontiac Trail and Old Wixom Rd
Boat and RV Reminder:
While the Board accepts the fact that boats and trailers are part of our summer fun and
enjoyment, it is still not permissible to store recreational toys and vehicles in your
driveway. We are all aware that boats, trailers and other toys will be parked for
cleaning, servicing and short term storage...but don't put your neighbors in the position
where they have to complain.
Parking your Vehicles: It is illegal to overhang the sidewalk and
it is illegal to overhang the street...if you vehicles don't fit in the drive...park them
on the street!
Paying your Dues: 2009 is going to be difficult for all of us.
Payment of your Homeowners Association dues is your responsibility...please don't
simply ignore the notices that you are sent...call one of the board members to arrange for
a payment schedule. Those of us who pay dues on time benefit the whole by making our
sub more attractive and preventing further devaluation of home.
2010 Census: Coming
soon to your neighborhood will be U.S. Census personnel. These workers will be
performing "address canvassing" during the period of April through June 2009,
which is needed to verify addresses and facilitate the counting of all Wixom residents for
the 2010 Census.
Our community's participation in the census is critical because every year more than $300
billion in federal funding is distributed to states and communities based on census
counts. So, when you receive your 2010 Census form, please do your part and complete
and return the form so everyone in our City is counted and Wixom receives our share of
federal funding.
If you have any questions regarding the 2010 Census process, please feel free to contact
the City Clerk's Office at 248-624-4557 or to email me at Lkirby@ci.wixom.mi.us.

| Compost/Yard Waste Collection
(Begins 4/1/2009)
The Wixom Department of Public Works has recently
received a number of calls regarding yard waste collection. Please be advised that
Waste Management, the City's refuse collection collector, begins collecting yard waste
on April 1st in accordance with our contract. The following information is
being provided in the event that you may have questions as well.
Yard waste
includes grass, weeds, leaves, shrub and plant clippings, plant materials, twigs, and
small limbs. This material is collected by
Waste Management from the beginning of April through the end of November.
As a reminder, compost/yard
waste material will be collected if placed in a 35 gallon (or less) garbage can with
a yard waste sticker affixed to it or if placed in a brown paper compost bag. Grocery bags and any form of plastic garbage bags
are NOT acceptable. The total weight of the brown paper compost bag
and contents must not exceed 40 pounds. Total
weight of metal or plastic containers and contents must not exceed 60 pounds. Yard Waste stickers are supplied by the Department
of Public Works (2041 Charms Road) at no charge.
There is no need to place stickers on the brown paper compost bags. Additionally, bundles of small branches will be
collected and must not exceed 4 feet in length, 6 inches in diameter, and 60 pounds in
weight. No logs, stumps, dirt or rocks will be accepted.
As an alternative use for grass clippings and leaves, keep in mind that home
composting is a great alternative to your curbside yard waste pick-up. Some of the
composting benefits for healthy soils and pollution prevention include:
1. Increases the water-holding capacity of sandy soils.
2. Enhances the permeability of clay soils.
3. Slowly releases nutrients.
4. Improves soil structure.
5. Restores microbial populations.
6. Suppresses certain soil-borne diseases.
7. Prevents soil erosion.
8. Degrades petroleum products, pesticides, and hydrocarbons
in contaminated soils.
9. Binds heavy metals carried by storm water run-off,
helping to product water quality.
*Here's a Secret.....If you have compost waste items that are very large
and cannot get rid of the waste at your home...The DPW yard off Charms Road is open
through the week and mornings on the weekend to accept compost material. This is not
advertised and is for the residents of Wixom.
